FAQ

We require a free 15-minute phone screen with the parent and participant to determine whether the group is a good fit. From there, we schedule an appointment to complete intake paperwork and an application to hold your space for the next course.

We accept private pay clients and those with funding through Texas Workforce Commission Vocational Rehabilitation Services for ABA services. We are not currently set up to take insurance for the program, at is often difficult to set up contracts with traditional insurance for comprehensive programs like PEERS®. PEERS® is like a semester course that can be a very valuable investment in your child’s social and emotional education.

Yes. We accommodate the involvement of both parents or more than one caregiver or household member. The skills learned in each group session build on each other, and the support skills learned in the parent group are the same. For this reason, we encourage that at least one person plan to attend each and every session with their teen. If they have to miss a session, they should send a substitute, but we encourage families to avoid planned absences for the duration of the program if possible, as the research indicates that having a consistent coach produces better outcomes.

Teen groups are fast-paced and fun. Learners view videos and identify the social steps or rules for each skill, and the leader prompts the group through a sequence of questions that flow into consideration of the consequences of following the rule vs skipping the step. The group leader shapes the discussion and records the answers on the white board to create the list of steps for the skill. Then, using the list, individuals practice the skills using all steps, and receive performance feedback. Positive reinforcement for appropriate participation is tallied on the board during each session. Groups are designed to be supportive and interactive so members feel safe and enjoy engaging in activities and practicing skills for making and keeping friends.

We utilize a solution-focused and strength-based focus. The group is not designed to be a support group but more tailored to focus on helping coaches support and motivate teens and young adults to take some social risks and practicing the weekly skills taught and reviewed each week.

We can offer an intern to be the coach which includes up to an hour of coaching each week in between sessions for a nominal extra charge.
